According to the Nigerian Police Force, throughout the past month, it has reported 612 automobiles that have been hijacked or gone missing nationwide.
The vehicles were confiscated after the Electronic Central Motor Registry (E-CMR) was implemented, according to a statement made by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer.
He went on to say that in order to dismantle the gang behind these carjackings, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has ordered an immediate inquiry.
Adejobi stated at a press conference in Abuja that three of the seven stolen cars that were initially reported via the E-CMR platform had already been recovered and were being investigated.
The force public relations officer emphasized the E-CMR initiative’s success by stating that one of the stolen cars from Abuja was found in Ilorin, Kwara State, and returned to its rightful owner last weekend. He also said that the system’s goal is to significantly reduce vehicle theft and related crimes.
