The proud father reflected on his journey, noting that it has been exactly 36 years since he himself was called to the Bar. According to him, watching his son take the oath was both emotional and symbolic, rekindling memories of his early years in the legal field.
Addressing his newly robed son, he cautioned him (Khalifa Waya) to uphold the highest ethical standards that underpin the practice of law. He urged him to uphold the ethics and values of the legal profession—honesty, integrity, discipline, and absolute respect for the rule of law.
He added that while he has offered guidance, mentorship and support over the years, the responsibility for building a distinguished career now lies entirely with the new lawyer. “I have done my part; the rest is his own,” he stated.
The senior lawyer concluded by wishing his son a successful and honourable journey in the legal profession, expressing confidence that he will uphold its values and contribute meaningfully to society. He emphasized that he has played his part in guiding him to this point, and the journey ahead now rests entirely on the young lawyer’s shoulders.
